Canvas Detailing, Restoration And Protection

One of the best ways to keep canvas fabrics looking good is to hose fabrics off on a monthly basis with clear water. This helps prevent dirt from becoming deeply embedded in the fabric and eliminates the need for more frequent vigorous cleaning. PMD suggests cleaning at least once a month if not more often pending its exposure. When it's time for a thorough cleaning, Canvas fabrics could possibly be cleaned while still on a boat or, size and space permitting, they can be removed for cleaning dockside. PMD does not typically use hard chemicals to clean canvas in order to avoid fading and discoloration. With regular cleaning schedules comes long-lasting canvas or sails. Most marine fabrics do not promote mildew growth, however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances that are not removed from the fabric. We suggest inspections upon each use of your watercraft in order to catch any new growth and notify PMD immediately to schedule service. Marine fabrics are treated with proprietary water and stain repellent finish that is designed to last for several years but may require replenishing after a thorough cleaning. PMD will treat your canvas fabric with 303® Fabric Guard™ upon inspection and discussion with the client.
